Get those motors running. Rodriders of Big Bear hosts the eighth annual Cool Run In The Mountains car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2.

The car show is cruisin’ to stop bruisin’. Proceeds from the event benefit DOVES, which is Big Bear’s domestic violence education and prevention center. Proceeds also benefit local animal rescue programs and the Big Bear Alpine Zoo.

The car show is free to the public. “This is a benefit show and not considered an antique or classic car show,” said event coordinator Brad Shelkey. “Cars come from all over — other car clubs. Last year we had 77 cars.”

The top 40 awards and specialty awards are chosen by the people, Shelkey said. Some of the specialty categories include Best Family Car, Best Muscle Car, Best Paint, Best Engine and Best in Show.

This is the first year the car show is at the Convention Center at Big Bear Lake.

The Convention Center is open for food in the morning. Sonora Cantina donates food for a $ 5 taco bar at noon. DJ George Halter spins the platters and the master of ceremony is Renny Doyle.

The Convention Center at Big Bear Lake is at 42900 Big Bear Blvd., Big Bear Lake. For more information or to volunteer, contact Shelkey at 562-505-5755 or
