Final polish for cars in Maleny Classics

THE Maleny Classics event this Sunday in Witta will see classic cars and motorcycles heading out of their garages and into the sunshine to be admired by all.

But there’s also a treat in store for those keen on BMWs.

The BMW Showcase this year has more than 60 BMWs entered and the cars will be travelling in a motorcade leaving Aussie World at Palmview and arriving at the event at Witta Recreation and Sports Club about 9am.

The BMWs will be travelling in order of age up the Blackall Range to Maleny and on to the event so they all arrive in procession at once.

Organiser Debs Swain said each year she liked to spice up Maleny Classics with a special display.

“Last year we celebrated Ducati’s 50th birthday with a display of over 100 Ducati motorcycles,” she said.

“This year, Classics is showcasing BMW cars and bikes.

“And we’re calling for everyone who owns a BMW from past to present, to come along and take part in the display.

“We have 60 BMWs so far – all different models, years and colours.

“But there are still a few gaps we’d like to fill.”

Coastline BMW will be bringing some of the latest models to showcase the future of the brand.

Debs, a BMW owner herself, said she had met some great BMW owners and collectors recently since the word got out about Maleny Classics.

She said some rare cars coming along on the day were from as far away as Hervey Bay and the Gold Coast.

All cars, bikes and caravans to 1989 are welcome in the Classic Car Show’n’Shine.

Classic car entries are $ 10 and $ 5 for motorcycles.

Debs is hoping many rare and interesting cars and bikes will be entered this year.

She said as this show was aimed at the enthusiast, owners tended to bring out their rarer classic cars that often didn’t leave the garage.

A good contingency of Australian cars was usually among them.

John Gardiner will have his “Broncos” Yamaha R6 among the vintage and classic motorcycles on display.

Overnight camping is available on-site for the vintage caravans.

The Sunshine Coast Pinup School will be at the Retro Markets, to show women how to dress and do their hair for the retro look.

As well as the Retro Markets from 9am-1pm, the event hosts trade stalls and the Car and Bike Swap Meet.

All collectors, enthusiasts, BMW owners and general car lovers are welcome at the Witta Recreation and Sports Club on Witta Rd from 9am to 1pm.

Entries in the Classic Car Show’n’Shine can set up any time from 8am.
